Birds of Africa

The Carmine Bee Eater had to be hands down the jewel in the crown for me. Hard to find, and even harder to catch, we had just  a few minutes to follow them through the thick scrub and hope to get a clear shot.  These little  jewels have inspired me to one day go back again  and find them.

Giant Kingfisher

He was very chill, allowing us to come quite close up on the riverbank.

The Giant Kingfisher - we  saw him on just a few occasions  -what a beauty he was !

Too close! We interrupted his fishing view so off he went.

Lilac Roller

An aerial dance for his girfriend

The Lilac Roller  - this row and below

Fast and colourful

We found his nest! ( or rather he tolerated us finding it )

Pied Kingfisher

What a gorgeous bird to photograph! A little smaller than a kookaburra but with that fiesty kingfisher-y ability.

White Cheeked Bee Eater

Little Bee Eaters

small but mighty!

Malachite Kingfisher

as small as your hand, but faster than your eye.
